Jefferson Cowie (Vanderbilt University) will explore the recurring trope of the “forgotten man” in American politics from social Darwinist William Graham Sumner to Franklin Roosevelt to Donald J. Trump. Along the way, he will seek to explain what this mythical political figure says about different phases in American history as well as the future of American politics.
This talk is offered as part of the series "Critical Issues in Cultural Studies: The 'Forgotten Man' in the Trump Era."
