Columbia College Chicago

Black Comedy and Social Justice

On behalf of the Critical Issues in Cultural Studies (CULS 207 01) course, you are invited to join us as Dr. Sheila Baldwin discusses Black Comedy and Social Justice:

Social Justice through a black comedic lens depends on who is telling the joke—the white master or the black artist? This presentation will address how black artists/comedians have challenged the master’s social justice stance, as well as the stereotypical perceptions that the master created.

Sheila V. Baldwin is an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago. Her teaching and research include African American culture, social justice, and organizational change drawing from an arts and critical race theory perspective.
