Columbia College Chicago

Makerspace

The Makerspace is a student-centered arts, crafts, and fabrication studio that encourages and supports student creativity outside the traditional classroom setting. In addition to a wide variety of tools, materials, and workshops, the Makerspace offers a large, comfortable, and dynamic space for students to collaborate, prototype, learn new making skills, and practice hobbies. The Makerspace, an extension of the Columbia College Student Organizations and Leadership office, works side by side with students to realize their creative vision.

The Makerspace is free and open to all current Columbia College students. Join us in the Fall and Spring semesters Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–7 p.m. and Saturday from 12–7 p.m.

A few of the tools and materials the Makerspace provides includes:

  • 3D printers
  • Mat cutter
  • Button makers
  • Vinyl cutter
  • Industrial and tabletop sewing machines
  • Coil and comb binding machines
  • Cardboard, construction paper, posterboard, fabric, and paint
  • Scissors, glue guns, rulers, markers, and colored pencils
  • Hammers, mallets, screwdrivers, and power drills

Find out about free workshops we offer:

  • Search "Makerspace" on Columbia's events calendar
  • Follow the Makerspace on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter
  • Look for our event posters around campus or stop by the Makerspace and pick up some event flyers

Makerspace Guidelines:

  • Have your ID ready to check out tools for use in the Makerspace
  • Replace tools and unused materials where you found them
  • Clean up after yourself
  • Use of our free resources is intended for your class projects, hobbies, prototyping, and band/club/student organization marketing. If you plan to sell any items you make in the Makerspace, you are permitted to use the Makerspace’s tools and equipment, but you must provide your own materials.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help – that’s why we’re here!
