Title: A Chemist’s Adventures in the Periodic Table
Abstract: While at our college, I have had several different scholarly interests. One area has been in the instrumental analysis of: foods/ drinks for calcium content; potassium levels in flavors of Gatorade; cadmium in cultivars of lettuce as well as investigating the phytoremediation of Brassica Rapa for cadmium.
A second area of my interest is in chemical history. This has had me research and write about the elements americium, krypton, neon, xenon and, most recently, astatine. I have also written a biography on the British chemist Morris William Travers.
Current [and future] projects include the investigation of arsenic content in baby cereal and assorted fruit juices and the exploration of the phytoremediative ability of pumpkins. In addition to these analyses, I plan to address the discovery and chemistry of the elements technetium and promethium.
