The Creative Writing Reading Series presents a reading by Tony Trigilio and a tribute to Ed Smith.
Tony Trigilio’s most recent book is Ghosts of the Upper Floor (BlazeVOX [books], 2019), the third installment in his multivolume poem, The Complete Dark Shadows (of My Childhood). His selected poems, Fuera del Taller del Cosmos, were published in Guatemala in 2018 by Editorial Poe (translated by Bony Hernández). Trigilio co-edits the journal Court Green and is an associate editor for Tupelo Quarterly. He is a professor in the English and Creative Writing Department at Columbia College Chicago.
In Punk Rock Is Cool for the End of the World, poet David Trinidad brings together a comprehensive selection of Ed Smith’s work. Smith blazed onto the Los Angeles poetry scene in the early 1980's from out of the hardcore punk scene. His “gang” of LA writer and artist friends read, partied, and performed together, in addition to sharing and publishing each other’s work. Despite productive years and joyful times, Ed was plagued by mood disorders and drug problems and, at the age of forty-eight, he took his own life. This tribute will celebrate the release of his collected writing and will feature David Trinidad, Lisa Fishman, Tony Trigilio, and James Eidson, among others.
