CALL FOR DEVISERS/MOVEMENT ARTISTS
Performers with a background in devised theater and movement.
All genders, ethnicities, and performative disciplines welcome!
You have a strong background in any movement discipline (dance, circus, physical theatre, gymnastics, etc…)
We’re striving for a POC/minority-led ensemble, but all can apply and audition.
There will be a small stipend available for performers.
To assist to the audition, please send your CV, headshot, and tell us a bit of your interest in movement work, and your level of experience/comfort with acrobatics.
You will then be invited to assist our audition workshop!
Tuesday, January 15th @ South Loop Campus
(during the evening, time TBA)
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
You will be invited to collaborate in an ensemble-devised piece with high physicality that aims to be multidisciplinary and site-specific. The work might include acrobatic elements, but is ultimately designed to allow itself to be surprised. The process will be documented as part of a thesis project.
The work will be researching our relationship to our masks and our shadows. What do we find ourselves ‘performing’ in our daily lives? What lurks behind our acquired definitions?
The work will be devised using our own personal stories as starting points, and aims to sustain a process that could be described as self-aware.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:
I am a Latinx devised theatre artist creating work for my thesis performance.
This project will be presented once in short form during the week of March 4th-8th, in order to get feedback from an invited audience.
The work in progress will be shown as part of the graduate thesis showings festival, at Columbia College Chicago, performed at some point in between 1-4th of May.
Upon the conclusion of the MFA program, the project will continue with the goal of starting a devised theatre company, but this commitment is only until the 4th of May.
Roughly 3-4 hours a week, with rehearsals spaces in the South Loop.
Most likely on Tuesday/Thursdays, but up for discussion.
Tuesday, January 15 at 5:00pm to 9:00pm
