"South Indian Calssical Music: The Carnatic Tradition"

A multi-media lecture on Indian classical music, Carnatic tradition, presented by Mani and Mara Sundaresan for the Music Department's "Intro to Musics of the World" course.

Mani Sundaresan was trained by one of the top masters in the Indian flute performance tradition.  His lecture will address theoretical as well as performative aspects of the music.

Mara Sundaresan currently teaches Carnatic Music vocal performance and Sanskrit.  She has studied with well-known Carnatic musicians and appeared on television and many different programs while living in India.  Both Mani and Mara are experienced performers with dance orchestras in the Washington DC area.

 

Light refreshments will be provided.
