Please us for the opening reception of The Tyranny of Good Taste from 5-7pm. The curator and artists will be present.
The Tyranny of Good Taste features emerging American artists who respectively toy with themes of excess, waste, and superfluous time/materiality in aesthetic creations of varying scale and craftsmanship.
At times of national fiscal crisis, when austerity measures threaten to increasingly reduce federal support of creativity and art making, artists have frequently utilized the aesthetic strategies of hand-making and faux-glamour to combat the perceived sense that ambitious and experimental art is impossible.
This exhibition, is organized with the ambition of encouraging aesthetic risk-taking within both artistic and pedagogic practice – regardless of any anticipated uselessness, decadence, un-sell-ability, or excessiveness of resulting creations.
The Tyranny of Good Taste is curated by Danny Orendorff, 2013-14 curator-in-residence for The Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, MODanny Orendorff.
This exhibition will be traveling to Charlotte Street's La Esquina gallery space following its run at Glass Curtain Gallery.
