"As a mid-career artist I found myself stymied as to how and why I would make a new work. There was also the nagging feeling that I wanted to be back on stage alone, and then later with my company to satisfy the performer in me. I decided to turn to one of my artistic forbearers, one I have been aware of my whole career, but felt very little affinity for before. This was John Cage and, as you've probably heard me say, the "permission" of his indeterminate methods was both an encouragement and a provocation for myself.
I would like to open our discussion with the above description as to why Story/Time, but lead the group to ask themselves where they are going and who are their mentors or thought leaders. Who are their forbearers and where are they in relationship to them as I assume I will be in a room full of people who are making the future." - Bill T. Jones
