Black Vocality: Cultural Memory, Identities, and Practices of African-American Singing Styles

A two-day symposium on how contemporary African-American vocal styles influence and express the reshaping of new cultural identities. Join performers, teachers, and scholars, including Pamela Z (San Francisco), Mankwe Ndosi (Minneapolis), Fabrizia Barresi (Paris), Bobbi Wilsyn (Columbia College), Maggie Brown (Chicago), and many others. Gospel and popular music, improvisation, sound poetry, storytelling, extended vocal techniques.

Presented by the Center for Black Music Research and the Music Department of Columbia College Chicago, and the University of Salento, Lecce, Italy.
